Clinical Supervision

For Associate Social Workers (ASW) and Associate Marriage and Family Therapists (AMFT) in California…

The journey toward licensure is a rickety, wooden rollercoaster… at best.

However, unlike a typical rollercoaster, it’s not fast. It’s quite the opposite. The average associate will take 4-6 years to finish their clinical training after graduate school.

And sometimes the rollercoaster stops altogether when you’re struggling to find a placement or a job and keep running into dead ends. Frustration builds up, and anxiety sinks in. You feel your heart is in the right place in helping people, but why won’t the rest of life line up with it? There may have been times you questioned your path and if you could make it off this rollercoaster.

That, in combination with the limited jobs available to pre-licensed therapists and a lack of individual support, can really create a scarcity mindset as you progress through your journey. It can feel like the ultimate battle with your motivation. Years of graduate school, thousands of dollars, and thousands of hours of training are required just to qualify to sit for your board exams.

The focus, dedication, and resilience required to become a licensed psychotherapist is no easy feat.

But don’t forget why you entered this field initially.

You’re helping people transform their lives. You help people turn hope into reality. You help them believe that change is possible and guide them to make those changes.

Those are the moments you forget you’re on a rollercoaster – when you’re of service to others.

On this journey, you’ve learned more about yourself than you ever imagined. It has a way of bringing out your deepest insecurities… but also your deepest gifts. Self-awareness, life experiences, and clinical knowledge help you become that effective therapist. That’s what makes the ride worth it.

But when you’re not getting the support you need…

This is a field where you’ll need to advocate for yourself. The right support will shift you into an abundance mindset to set you up to excel.

Good clinical supervision is important for your success, but getting it can be difficult. Even if you’re supporting clients, it may not be offered consistently (if at all). Other times, your needs are not met by your current supervisor.

If you have poor supervision, that could affect your career.

My passion for supporting therapists started early in my career…

… when I represented pre-licensed therapists as a board member of the Los Angeles Chapter of CAMFT. My co-chair and I organized dozens of learning and networking events for new therapists. I was also able to work as an advisor to students preparing for their board exams for one of the top three test preparation programs.

I’ve been fortunate to have had supervisors who have left a positive impression on my life and the direction of my career. They couldn’t have been more different from one another, but they were all valuable in my growth.

I love helping the helpers which led me to becoming a clinical supervisor.

I’ve met and worked with hundreds of associates just like you who are pursuing paths as healers but floundering their way through the hoops of the licensing process.

With a varied background in supporting therapists, I’m able to provide a unique perspective on navigating the road to licensure.

Here are some areas in which I can support you:

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
  • Strategic Family Therapy (SFT)
  • Mindfulness-based interventions
  • Individual, couples, family, children, group therapy
  • Depression, anxiety, grief and loss, eating disorders
  • Treatment planning (SFBT, CBT, SFT modalities)
  • Suicide intervention based on the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) model
  • Developing cultural awareness, sensitivity, and intercultural communication skills
  • BBS licensing process and test preparation recommendations

Here’s what you can expect when we work together…

I’ll help you channel your unique talents, values, and interests to become the therapist you want to become. The last thing I want is to try to make you the “mini-me” version of me.

I’ll help you define your professional identity and teach you how to start authentic networking (the smart way, not the hard way).

I’ll help you strengthen and trust your clinical intuition in working with clients.
I’ll respect and maintain clear boundaries in the supervisor-supervisee relationship. I understand that clinical supervision is not psychotherapy.

I’ll help you make sure your hours count and support you through the stress of the licensing process. With a background in helping therapists prepare their Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) applications for licensure, I can review your forms and hours when you are ready to submit. I stay up to date with BBS laws and regulations because they are changing all the time.

I maintain best practices under both CAMFT and NASW mentoring standards.

It’s time to get the professional support you need.

I offer month-to-month clinical supervision agreements or single session consultation.

Whether you’re seeking short- or long-term supervision, I look forward to learning about your interests and how I can support you. If you have no idea what kind of support you need, don’t worry – I can help you identify what you’re looking for. If I can’t provide it myself, I’ll definitely try to point you in the right direction.

If you’re interested in clinical supervision or consultation, contact me at (323) 207-9234 (call or text) or email to see if we could be a good fit. I will get back to you within 24 hours.

Testimonials

Tracy has exceptional supervision skills! During my time as her supervisee she provided a safe space for me to be vulnerable, learn and grow. She challenged me to conceptualize my clients presenting problems through different therapeutic modalities. Tracy allowed me the space to explore my own clinical style and use my clinical judgment. During our individual and group supervisions, she provided constructive feedback, training and applicable interventions to use in session. When it came time for me to apply for licensure, Tracy assisted and guided me throughout the process. She provided me with test taking and study tips and reviewed my application for accuracy before I submitted. My application was approved with no revisions and I passed the exam on my first attempt.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Tracy has been my clinical supervisor and now my professional mentor for three years now. From her, my clinical skills were strengthened, my knowledge and interventions expanded and confidence bloomed. Tracy was instrumental in helping me develop my clinical confidence and continues to be a person I trust to offer me sound judgment and guidance. I couldn’t recommend her more.
